A recent study revealed that VIP account managers in the online gambling industry predominantly depend on spreadsheets and manual decision-making tools rather than specialised automation or AI systems. 

This reliance places many high-value players at risk of “silent churn”, where VIP players become inactive without warning, posing a significant challenge for operators.

The report, titled The State of VIP Operations, was compiled by The Playa in collaboration with Gaming Operations Academy and WarriorLab.

However, the UK’s physical estate shrank, with overall licensed gambling premises falling by 2% to 8,081.

Betting shops declining for the twelfth consecutive period, standing at 5,617, a 3.6% decrease representing a loss of 208 shops year-on-year.

Various tier one and two retail operators, such as William Hill and Betfred, have scaled back and closed hundreds of shops between them this year.

However, until very recently the report was kept confidential by Evolution, as it contained commercially sensitive material, the supplier said.

But this week the 2022 report was released in full by the court. Playtech, for its part, has celebrated a number of findings in the document, which it says supports and corroborates findings from Black Cube.
